Scope of work
As EPCC contractor on this project, Monford Group delivered all civil, mechanical, and electrical works in the construction and operation of a Renewable Hydrogen Plant and associated infrastructure, including a dedicated 18 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) farm, 10 MWe hydrogen electrolyser, an 8MW/8MWH lithium-ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and balance of plant and supporting infrastructure.
Once commissioned, the project will be capable of producing up to 640 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year.
Innovations and Challenges Overcome
Project Yuri is innovative in several keyways, it marks the integration of Australia’s first off grid, microgrid/hydrogen hybrid plant, connected to an existing ammonia plant. The implementation of an advanced Energy Management System enabled the efficient integration and management of power from the microgrid to the hydrogen plant and directly to the existing ammonia plant. Additionally, a state-of-the-art cloud monitoring system was introduced, providing forecasted energy inputs from the microgrid to the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), hydrogen production, and directly to the ammonia plant. Monford designed and engineered the solar array on this project for Wind Region D, an area which is prone to extreme wind conditions and cyclones, and as such, designing the solar farm in involved innovative engineering with reinforced mounting systems, aerodynamic panel configurations, and secure anchoring to withstand the severe wind forces typical of the region. These innovations collectively enhanced the project’s sustainability, efficiency, and technological sophistication.
